Boulder’s book club community showed up in a big way for the Foundation’s inaugural Book Club Competition: Bookworms on the Slopes!
This winter, 30 book clubs and 141 individual readers crossed the finish line over three spirited weeks of challenges, earning points by checking out books, learning about library resources, sharing top reads and photos of reading adventures around town and at home, and dropping off a landslide of heartfelt thank-you notes and sweet treats for library staff. The energy was contagious — and the competition was close.
In the end, four teams earned their place as 2026 Bookworm on the Slopes winners. Based on total points earned, the top three book clubs were, The Next Chapter Book Club in first place, the Flatiron Bookworms in second, and the Shelf-Care Society as third. The MoMas book club earned the 2026 Dream Team award for earning the highest per person average points. Congratulations to our winners and to everyone who participated.
Perhaps what we loved most about this year’s competition was what we learned. Our Bookworms told us they care deeply about the programs that make Boulder’s libraries extraordinary — from Reading Buddies and Summer of Discovery to literacy outreach and events in the Canyon Theater. And 86 Bookworms backed that belief with a gift to the Foundation in support of Library Giving Day. That’s community in action.
As one participant put it: “It has been a great reminder of all the wonderful programming the library has for us. We are grateful for all the resources, wonderful staff, and finding new books to continue to inspire us and learn.”
Library is a verb. And our Bookworms? They live it.
