Short Story Dispensers have arrived at Boulder Public Library

Feb 3, 2021

The Boulder Public Library has been gifted with 2 Short Story Dispensers by the Boulder Library Foundation. The Story Dispensers will arrive mid-January 2021 and be available for patrons to engage with–with touch-free technology–as they wait to enter the library & also while they are inside the building.

Here is how the Short Story Dispensers work:

Patrons are encouraged to choose what kind of a story they wish to receive. Participants hover over one of the 3 buttons (touchless) to choose what kind of a short story will dispensed just for them–choices being Kids, Spanish, General Public. Material generated is produced from writers AROUND the GLOBE and is printed on thermal paper.

Here is what ‘Short Edition’ has to say: Short Edition aims to raise literary awareness, encourage new and emerging writers, and highlight the importance and timelessness of literature. At Short Edition, we’re inspired by a collective desire for stories to be a way of connecting with others, to serve as a spark for conversation and self-expression on a daily basis, delivered and read in a new way: on the go, free of charge, and in unexpected places. We view literature as something to be enjoyed by everyone and thus we see our Short Story Dispensers as necessary public services, making both international and local stories available to all.
The Short Story Dispensers will encourage individuals of all ages to read in a NEW WAY and to WRITE (with additional programming that will involve writing workshops and competitions). While we are still coping with Covid 19 and how it impacts our ability to deliver programming, the Short Story Dispensers will offer a new and exciting way for library patrons to engage with literature.
