100% of the Fund will directly support furloughed Boulder Public Library Employees during the COVID-19 crisis.
Library staff are the heart and soul that make the Boulder Public Library one of the greatest public assets in our community. However, due to the COVID-19 crisis, the City of Boulder has been forced to furlough 737 employees. As a result, 70% of the library staff have been furloughed until at least June 28th, 2020. Always eager and ready to help, our beloved librarians could use a helping hand, now more than ever, from the greater Boulder community.
In an effort to lead the charge and support library staff through these challenging times, the Boulder Library Foundation, in partnership with the Library Commission and the Boulder Library Champions, has launched a fundraising initiative called HALO (Help a Library Worker Out). The Foundation has committed to an initial $10,000 donation and will match, dollar-for-dollar, all donations up to an additional $25,000.
“As a community of Library lovers, we feel it’s critically important to support the people that help make our library programs and services possible,” said Alicia Gibb, President of the Boulder Library Foundation. “We are asking our community to rally around those that help us find a new book, teach our children to read, provide new opportunities to be creative and so much more. Every donation will make a difference in our library workers’ lives.”
The Foundation hopes that big or small, the Boulder community will rise to the challenge and help support the 108 furloughed Boulder Public Library staff.
